Industrial Arts

Industrial Arts courses at Maitland Grossmann High School have a unique focus on creativity and innovation. This is achieved through the successful implementation of student learning in STEM based lessons and the emphasis on the use of Technology and Engineering in problem solving skills.

A variety of tools, equipment and processes are applied throughout the development of practical projects. Students are encouraged to develop skills and knowledge through the completion of these projects and are provided with the opportunity to use a variety of materials. Students also have the opportunity to engage in industry visits and career presentations with professional speakers and academics from tertiary institutions.

All students at Maitland Grossmann High undertake a compulsory course in Technology Mandatory in Years 7 and 8. This course is structured to not only meet the requirements of NESA, but to also give students grounding for subjects that they may elect to do in Years 9 and 10. Students who wish to continue into Senior study in years 11 and 12 may elect to study Engineering Studies, Design and Technology, Industrial Technology  (Timber, Metal, Graphics, Electronics and Multimedia). Vocational subjects such as Metals and Engineering and Construction are also available to students seeking a career pathway in these fields.

The Industrial Arts faculty has a very strong history of academic achievement in the HSC with its strong focus on student engagement and years of teaching experience of the staff in their specialised fields. The faculty also has access to a range of new technologies such as Laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC Router and has been at the forefront of the F1 in Schools challenge over recent years as part of the STEM program.
