What is high potential and gifted education?

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
  • Differentiated and challenging teaching tailored to individual student strengths
  • Enrichment and extension activities in academic subjects
  • Participation in STEM initiatives such as Build ME a Future STEM day, CSIRO CREST enrichment, STEM primary partnership mentoring, Virtual STEM academy
  • Engagement in creative thinking and problem-solving through critical thinking electives and writing programs
  • Opportunities to develop leadership, resilience, and wellbeing skills embedded into learning
  • Access to arts programs including visual arts workshops and creative clay programs in classroom settings
Across our school
  • Participation in creative extracurricular activities such as Aboriginal dance and didgeridoo groups, school musical, concert band, school exhibitions
  • Involvement in social-emotional initiatives like peer mentoring, student leadership bodies, cultural mentoring groups, and wellbeing enrichment
  • Engagement in physical activities including athletics carnival, Bill Turner Cup soccer, cross country carnival, and various HPGE sports programs (football, basketball)
  • Opportunities to showcase talent in debating, public speaking, and cultural celebrations like NAIDOC week
  • Participation in community-based programs such as Breakfast with a Friend performances and Citizenship Gift projects
  • Access to tailored programs such as STEM initiatives and camps

  • Access to state-wide enrichment opportunities and competitions such as:

    • Premier’s Debating Challenge
    • Parliamentary Regional Roadshow public speaking
    • The Young Dobell competition
    • Science & Engineering Challenge
    • Girls with a Mission program
  • Participation in statewide forums and events including NSW Legislative Council forum

  • Engagement in HPGE leadership programs and mentoring at a regional or state level

  • Extension through state-wide STEM initiatives and creative writing clubs

  • Connection with broader Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learning and leadership programs
